What might take minimal work for others might mean repetitive efforts from me, and I’m proud of it! I always believe that PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!

Since I was a child, I have been finding it difficult to focus my attention. I easily get distracted in classroom lectures as I imagine myself playing with my new mods in Minecraft and Terraria. I have also frequently struggled with comprehension, that no matter how hard I tried, new concepts just won’t make sense to me.

As my academic load became more challenging, I had to adapt and find the ultimate key to help me overcome my attention and comprehension difficulties– REPEATED PRACTICE. I stumbled upon my solution when I noticed how I run out of words and unconsciously stutter on days when I do not speak that much. Not only my speaking, but my writing and interacting skills deteriorated.

From there, I started to believe in the saying “PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT”.

I acknowledged that with my difficulties, learning and understanding things in one go may be unattainable. I carefully plotted my academic goals and my target dates to accomplish them. I made sure to habitually read my notes, watch my professors’ lecture videos, and browse online supplementary articles. Practicing these consistently lead me to a healthy form of perfectionism. Despite these, I still made mistakes, which make me feel sad from time-to-time. However, I always tried to switch my perspective and view mistakes as proof of my continuous growth and development. I saw mistakes as queues that taught me where and how I should improve.

Now that I am in college, I am grateful for my family, professors, and tutors who always had big, big hearts for me. I am who I am now because of their unfailing confidence in me. Although I may not be the perfect student, my self-commitment to repetitively stride towards growth and learning still continues. I am hoping that the same also goes for you!
