Hi! I am Daniel Villapando, a graduate of Pasig City Science High School and currently a freshman at the Ateneo de Manila University. Are you probably looking forward to the nearing college entrance tests (CETs)?

As a graduating senior high school student, college life might be one of the most significant and anticipated chapters of your life. It is when you will experience new things: commuting to school, attending big organization gatherings, and budgeting expenses if you opt to move to a dormitory. It is exciting, but at the same time, daunting, especially because your college life is dependent on your performance during CETs. Don’t worry, even I felt the same. And so, here are personal tips to increase your performance and help you PASS them like I did!

đŸ”đŸ…żïž – Practice and Prepare

CETs cover lessons taught in high school, along with some advanced, streak-breaker topics. Build on your high school skills and prepare to study and research on advanced topics. In my case, I had a whole school year preparation with Sophie’s Mind. We scheduled hours for review and/or advanced study, especially in Science and Math, during my tutorial sessions. There were several formula and principles going on, so I practiced note taking for easier visualization. I knew I needed to work smartly, especially because it was very challenging to balance CET review and my regular academic load as a graduating SHS student.

đŸ“šđŸ…°ïž – Acquire the necessary materials

You do not want your precious study time to be spent in vain. Choose your reviewers and references wisely, especially for specialized topics such as Calculus, Chemistry, and Language. Consult with your upperclassmen and teachers for their recommended authors. Ask among your peers for easy-to-digest online resources. Do not be afraid to ask – they will be happy to celebrate your CET successes with you!

📝S – Strategize and Summarize

Study smart! Find your own #StudyHack, such as using mnemonics if you learn by association, singing formula if you are an auditory learner, or drawing theories if you like visualizations. I personally liked to summarize my notes in sticky notes after every review session. This helped me get a quicker refresh on the terms and formulas quicker than if I were to go through the pages over again.

🧑S – Seek help

If any of these methods do not work for you, consider joining a study group with like-minded peers. Having study buddies allow you to develop commitment and motivation towards review. Assist each other and recall the things you have learned together. Alternatively, you may seek individualized and professional help from the teachers at Sophie’s Mind Tutorial Center. They have a great team of teachers who treated me as family and helped me grapple with my CET review era!

By adhering to the P.A.S.S. approach, find yourself as better equipped in acing university exams such as UPCAT, ACET, DCAT, and USTET.

Remember, this is only the beginning of another meaningful life chapter, and your entrance to college depends on how you perform here, so give it your best!đŸ’Ș
